Charlotte County deputies expect to have body cameras by end of summer
CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Fla. – Charlotte County deputies are expected to be fully equipped with body cameras and dash cameras by the end of summer, the sheriff’s office announced on Friday.
Charlotte County Law Enforcement and Detention deputies will be equipped with Axon 3 body-worn cameras and Axon Fleet 2 dash cameras.
The sheriff’s office initially announced the beginning of a testing period of two types of body-worn cameras back in September 2020.
“This gave us ample time to make certain we chose the system that will best serve our agency and community,” the sheriff’s office said. “Throughout the testing period we have taken into consideration all aspects of law enforcement, detention, associated privacy rights, liability, financial responsibilities, and the transparency we all strive for.”
Details of the contract are being fine-tuned and policies and procedures for the usage of the devices are being drafted.
“This addition will allow our agency to stay on the cutting edge of technology and continue to provide quality service to the citizens of Charlotte County,” the sheriff’s office said.
