Congregation of burned down Fort Myers church finds ways to give back despite tragedy
FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Morning Star Baptist Church congregation is still finding ways to help the community after their church burned to the ground more than two months ago.
The fire took dozens of firefighters to contain and the roof collapsed.
“Although our building is gone, it’s just a building it’s not the church. Buildings can be replaced and no lives were lost,” said Pastor Dwight Williams at the time of the fire.
The remains of the church have since been demolished, but the food pantry behind the church remained in tact.
On the first Tuesday of every month, the church holds a food bank for the community.
