Forecast: Rounds of rain and storms this week

Make sure you leave with your umbrella today! We’re in store for a pretty major shift in our weather pattern this week as we track a cold front sagging into our area, triggering rounds of rain and storms over the next three days.

This morning we’re monitoring a large band of rain and storms northwest of our area that will slowly drift into Southwest Florida from mid-morning through the afternoon. Some pockets of heavy rain and storms will be possible at times throughout the day, and a few of these storms will be capable of producing lightning as well as gusty winds above 40 mph.

The cold front will end up stalling out over central and south Florida, which will act as a focus for showers and storms through the middle of the week.  Chances will vary each day, but the activity will generally be at least scattered in nature each afternoon.

Temperatures will range from the low to mid-80s, depending on sunshine and rain for any given area. A few strong storms can’t be ruled out as well, although the severe threat is in the lowest category.

Rain totals from today through Wednesday will range from 1-2″ with some higher amounts possible where storms end up training over the same locations.

By midweek, the front will finally make it through our area, and we’ll enjoy some really nice weather Thursday and Friday before humidity returns for the upcoming weekend.

Upper 80s to near 90 degree warmth is likely into Saturday, before another shower chance returns with a weak system on Sunday.
