Naples Senior Center helps over 7,000 get COVID-19 vaccine

COLLIER COUNTY, Fla. – The Naples Senior Center helped thousands get the COVID-19 vaccine. The last group of seniors that the center registered for COVID-19 vaccine appointments received their shots on Friday.

Dr. Jaclynn Faffer, the president & CEO of the Naples Senior Center, said their mission is accomplished.

“I would say this is probably one of the most important things Naples Senior Center has done,” Faffer said. “It was very laborious but it was a labor of love.”

A labor of love as the Naples Senior Center secured shots for nearly 7,500 seniors.

Twenty-one were holocaust survivors, 600 were veterans, and at least eight people were over the age of 100.

The last group of seniors who got their shot on Friday is beyond grateful.

“We can go visit relatives and friends now and live a happier life,” Ron Hysell said.

Naples Senior Center estimates they have gotten shots in the arms of 19 percent of seniors 80+ living in Collier County, not including nursing homes.

As of right now, about 84 percent of seniors in Collier County have received the COVID-19 vaccine.
