Neighbor springs into action to extinguish Lehigh Acres arson

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lehigh Acres neighborhood is still in shock after a mystery suspect set fire to a truck Saturday night.

A nearby security camera caught the entire crime on tape. The suspect is seen walking up to the truck parked on the side of 19th Street SW, lighting it on fire, and taking off.

”At first, we thought it was mechanical or something. When we saw it was a person running away from the vehicle, we were pretty shocked,” the victim, who did not want to be identified, said. “It’s pretty crazy that you don’t have something better to do with your time than to light vehicles on fire.”

No injuries were reported and the victim’s next-door neighbor, Josh Otey, was able to put out the flames with a fire extinguisher.

”I had to do something. Whether that be the extinguisher or getting buckets of water from the house. Swim thing had to be done,” Otey said.

The arson is still under investigation.
