North Port man beat & stabbed homeless man over $40, police say

NORTH PORT, Fla. — A North Port man accused of beating and stabbing a homeless man was arrested and faces two charges: attempted armed robbery and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, officials said.

John Uzzardi, 57, allegedly beat and stabbed the man over $40, officers with the North Port Police Department said.

The victim said three people attacked him at Veteran’s Park on July 31. He told officers that he recognized Uzzardi and also gave descriptions of the other two suspects.

People who witnessed the alleged beating said that a big “boat-like car” and a dark-colored car pulled up to the park, three people got out, beat the victim, got back in their cars, and left the scene, according to an arrest report.

Police found Uzzardi outside a plaza off of Tamiami Trail near Veteran’s Park on August 1. He was arrested and taken to jail, officers said.
