Officials investigating ‘concerning statement’ written on the wall of Collier high school
COLLIER COUNTY, Fla.– Collier County detectives are investigating a ‘concerning statement’ that was written on the wall of Palmetto Ridge High School.
Principal Jim Ragusa sent a message to parents, Monday afternoon:
Good afternoon Bears family. This is Mr. Ragusa, the principal at Palmetto Ridge. Student and staff safety remain a top priority which is why we are making you aware the Collier County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a concerning statement. Out of an abundance of caution, the Sheriff’s Office plans to have an enhanced law enforcement presence when students return to class tomorrow.
During an active investigation, we must be careful not to say anything that could impede the investigation.
I ask that you trust in our school and the professionals who work with our students each day.
Please talk to your child about the serious consequences that may result from making a threat —whether it’s verbal, written, or an image — against another student or the school. Remember: see something, say something. And please report concerns immediately to an adult, and don’t spread it.
When we all work together, we can keep Collier safe. As always, if you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to call me or contact me directly tomorrow.
Thank you very much, and have a great evening.
Officials said there will be extra law enforcement at the school on Tuesday.
No further information about the statement is available at this time. This is a developing story.
