Passenger in Cape Coral crash dies at local hospital

CAPE CORAL, Fla. – A passenger died after a crash at the intersection of Burnt Store Road North and Tropicana Parkway West.

The Cape Coral Police Department said the crash happened on April 9, and the passenger initially appeared to have non-life-threatening injuries.

Edelmira Lopez later died on April 12 due to injuries from the crash, according to CCPD. A traffic homicide investigation is being conducted.

The SUV was driving eastbound on Tropicana Parkway and stopped for the stop sign at Burnt Store Road North, while a van was approaching the intersection. Cape Coral police said the SUV drove forward to cross the intersection, and the van hit the passenger side of the SUV.

The both driver’s had minor injuries, and the driver of the van was taken to the hospital.
