Southwest Florida inches closer to herd immunity
LEE COUNTY, Fla.– As more people get vaccinated, Southwest Florida is inching closer to herd immunity against COVID-19. However, there is still a long way to go.
Currently in Lee County, around 32% of people have been vaccinated. In order to reach herd immunity, around 70- 80% of people need to be vaccinated.
Medical experts said once that happens there will be fewer cases and hospitalizations.
Lee Health hospitals were treating 100 COVID-19 patients as of Wednesday.
“Until people get vaccinated we are still going to be precautious and try to prevent from passing something on,” said Fort Myers resident Vickie Stafford.
In order to reach herd immunity, significantly more people need to be vaccinated.
