Another Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine side effect possible

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommended pausing the Johnson & Johnson coronavirus vaccine last week to investigate a potential connection to a rare blood clotting disorder. More than 7,000,000 people have received the J&J shot and rare blood clots were only reported in six women. The European Medicines agency said yesterday that a warning about unusual blood clots and low blood platelets should be added to the vaccine. Local medical professionals are emphasizing that low platelet counts are just another side effect and are not...

EU regulator finds possible link between J&J vaccine and blood clots

(CNN) — Europe’s medicines regulator said it has found a possible link between the Johnson & Johnson Covid-19 vaccine and rare blood clots, but emphasized that the overall benefits of getting the shot outweigh the risks. The news, announced Tuesday, threw another complication into the European Union’s vaccination rollout and dealt a major blow to the company a week after its vaccine was paused in the United States. The European Medicines Agency (EMA) concluded that “a warning about unusual blood clots with low blood platelets should be added to the product information”...

Fauci predicts J&J vaccine return with restrictions or warnings by Friday

(CNN) — Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, said Sunday that he expects a decision to be made about the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine by Friday, predicting the vaccine would come back on the market with restrictions or warnings. “I don’t want to get ahead of the CDC and the FDA and the advisory committee, but I would imagine that what we will say is: that it would come back and it would come back in some sort of either warning or restriction,” he told CNN’s Dana Bash on “State of...

Florida to receive nearly 550,000 doses of COVID vaccines

FORT MYERS, Fla.– Florida is expected to receive a bigger shipment of COVID-19 vaccines next week, even though there is a pause on administering the Johnson & Johnson shot. The state is expecting nearly 550,000 doses of Moderna and Pfizer combined.  “Overwhelmingly, our vaccine supply with Moderna and Pfizer, I think it’s looking really good regardless of what happens with J & J,” said Dr. Kartik Cherabuddi with University of Florida Health.  “I think it can affect vaccine hesitancy and that’s what we should address.” Some people...

Johnson & Johnson vaccine to remain on pause

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) said the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine will remain on pause as an investigation continues on the recent reports of severe blood clots, NBC News reports. Experts advisors said they do not yet have enough information to make any new recommendations on the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. The CDC held a meeting Wednesday with the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), an independent panel of health experts, outside of the CDC. Officials agreed the Johnson & Johnson vaccine should remain on pause for now with a final...

Pharmacies & health systems pause Johnson & Johnson vaccinations

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the Food and Drug Administration said on Tuesday that they are recommending a pause in the use of the Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccine out of an “abundance of caution” while reports of rare blood clots are being investigated. The agencies are reviewing data from six reports in the U.S. of a rare and severe blood clot in people after receiving the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. “Right now, these adverse events appear to be extremely rare. COVID-19 vaccine safety is a top priority for the federal government,...
