LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno is encouraging employees in the department to get vaccinated against COVID-19.
A letter was sent to staff members of the Lee County Sheriff’s Office hours after a second deputy died from complications of COVID-19 in less than a month.
“I do not have to tell each of you that being a law enforcement officer is a dangerous job,” Marceno said in the letter. “With this invisible threat among us, the risks are even greater.”

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A 30-year-old man accused of sexually battering a child under 12 years old was arrested on Wednesday, officials said.
Deputies were dispatched to a home in Lehigh Acres after a sex crime was reported, a spokesperson for the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.
The suspect, Johnny Jackson, fled the scene before deputies arrived.
Deputies eventually caught up with Jackson and arrested him on probable cause.
Jackson faces a sexual battery and lewd and lascivious molestation charge, deputies said.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — After tying the knot, a Lehigh Acres groom spent his wedding night in the Lee County Jail after getting aggressive with his guests.
Jeffery Johnson, 22, was arrested on Saturday, July 10, after acting belligerent around some of his wedding guests, deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said.

The Lee County mother already had a 4-year-old son, Mikey, when she was murdered. She died protecting him from bullets flying in his direction.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Multiple deputies were investigating a crash on Littleton Road and North Cleveland Avenue in North Fort Myers.
A car with its airbags deployed and damage to the driver side was found in a grassy field near a ravine off of North Cleveland Avenue.
Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were on scene and said the car had a broken axle.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — A Lehigh Acres neighborhood is still in shock after a mystery suspect set fire to a truck Saturday night.
A nearby security camera caught the entire crime on tape. The suspect is seen walking up to the truck parked on the side of 19th Street SW, lighting it on fire, and taking off.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. – A car slammed into a mobile home off of Palm Beach Boulevard on Saturday.
The Lee County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at around 5:46 p.m. and found an SUV crashed into the home.
The driver was taken to the hospital, and Lee County deputies confirmed no one was inside the home when the crash happened.

LEE COUNTY, Fla. — Deputies with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office were investigating outside a North Fort Myers home late Wednesday night.
NBC2 crews arrived to the scene on Frankie Court around 11:10 p.m. and saw a home surrounded with crime scene tape and LCSO cruisers nearby.
Five bullet shell casings were seen in the yard that was surrounded by yellow tape.
LCSO deputies at the scene would not release any information about the investigation or why they were dispatched to the home.

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. — Rescue crews responded to a two-car crash with heavy damage in Lehigh Acres Wednesday morning, officials said.
Lee Boulevard at Taylor Lane is closed as crews work to clear the scene, according to a spokesperson for the Lehigh Acres Fire Control and Rescue District.
Both cars involved in the crash were heavily damaged, firefighters said. Information about injuries is not known, but people from both cars were being checked by paramedics.
Deputies from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office are also on the scene.
