Lee County passes ordinance that would ban panhandlers from medians
LEE COUNTY, Fla. – Lee County commissioners unanimously passed an ordinance Tuesday that would keep panhandlers and pedestrians from standing in medians.
The county said this ordinance is not intended to be targeted towards panhandlers and applies to anyone standing in the median of a roadway.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said fatal pedestrian accidents in Lee County are up 150% making it the 11th deadliest area for pedestrians in the nation.
