FWC rescues sick manatee from Captiva waters
CAPTIVA ISLAND, Fla. — Wildlife officials rescued a manatee that looked to be suffering from the effects of red tide off on Captiva Island on Wednesday.
Someone reported the sick manatee in Captiva to officials with the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission on Wednesday morning. A group of wildlife officials and volunteers arrived at the scene to find out what was wrong with the animal.
Although toxicology reports are pending, FWC officials said the manatee seemed to be suffering from red tide poisoning. The animal was transported to Zoo Tampa for treatment.
