TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Proposed changes to Florida’s voting laws could negatively and disproportionately impact older Floridians. Two bills in the Florida Legislature could affect how Florida’s seniors vote if they are signed into law. Those bills are House Bill 7041 and Senate Bill 90. Man targets Lehigh Acres gas station to steal car

LEHIGH ACRES, Fla. – A man and a woman went on what seemed like an innocent run to a Lehigh Acres Circle K on April 2. But the man came back to the store alone later to take something that wasn’t his. Deputies said the suspect stole a 2020 Nissan Altima from the gas station parking lot located on Homestead Road. Truck fire delays traffic on Metro Parkway

FORT MYERS, Fla. — Fire crews responded to a truck fire on Metro Parkway Monday morning. When South Trail firefighters arrived at Metro Parkway near Colonial Boulevard, they found a work truck that was fully involved in flames. The driver said they pulled over after experiencing some mechanical issues. The truck caught fire while the driver was waiting for a tow truck, a spokesperson with the South Trail Fire Department said. Thaliyah Ayala was last seen in the area of 6400 block of Pennsylvania Avenue in New Port Richey, according to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. State to close Piney Point after phosphate mine leak

MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. – The state is going to shut down Piney Point after the phosphate mine leaked last week, Gov. DeSantis announced at a news conference on Tuesday. “We want this to be the last chapter of the Piney Point story,” DeSantis said. DeSantis announced that he is redirecting $15.4 million from existing appropriations at DEP to be used for technologies to pretreat water at the site for nutrients.
