Widow of Naples officer killed in crash grieves while raising five children
LEE COUNTY, Fla. – An Estero mother is taking care of her five children alone while grieving the loss of her husband.
Police Sergeant Jeff Reidy died in an off-duty car accident on Corkscrew Road in February. He was less than a mile from their home when the impact from the crash killed him.
“I still have trouble even leaving the neighborhood because there’s no other way out of the neighborhood except to pass by the site,” explained Jeff’s wife, Jennifer Reidy.
She and Jeff were high school sweethearts, who both became first responders. Jeff was a Naples police officer and Jennifer was an EMT.
The two have two kids of their own, adopted two more, and the family has been in the process of adopting a one-year-old.
“We had a plan,” Jennifer explained. “We were always talking about the future, what was going to happen next, and I did not expect him to leave me at 41 years old when I was still only 39 with five kids.”
Part of Jennifer’s grieving process has been to build a fireplace tribute to her husband. It has a thin blue line of flames and special inscriptions from their children.
Friday, April 9, the Collier County Children’s Advocacy Center will have a dedication to Sgt. Reidy at their annual Pinwheels at the Pier event. The event starts at 10 a.m.
